Why Is Shaeed A Leader?

Why Is Shaeed a Leader?

Ken Robinson, stated that “The role of a creative leader is not to have all the ideas; it's to create a culture where everyone can have ideas and feel that they're valued”. This quote is reflective of Shaeed as an effective leader of people through his character. This essay will show three way in which Shaeed is an effective leader. They are the ability to organize and delegate tasks, the ability to  cope under pressure, and the ability to communicate effectively to people.

Firstly the reason Shaeed is a good leader is because he has the ability to keep people organized and remain focused on task.  An example of this is when he, went to  Red Pine Camp  for  three days and it involved doing dishes. The campers were divided into four men teams, in which Shaeed was the leader of one of the teams. This was due to his display of having experience in doing the dishes at Red Pine Camp on  the first day. The four man squad consisted of a, plate organizer,  sprayer, pusher, lastly stacker. Shaeed was given a group who didn't know what to  do so he had to organize where people had to go and delegate tasks by telling them what to do base on each individual’s ability. Some people were able to work fast at organizing plates with plates, bowls with bowls, and utensils with utensils. This meant that he had to swap people around in other places to get the job done effectively and in a timely manner.

Secondly another way that Shaeed’s effective leadership is displayed is his ability to work under pressure. This was shown in the camping if a trust activity. There were groups of two and one person was blindfolded. Shaeed was given the task of directing the course of his blindfolded partner to manuver safely and quickly around the forest. This involved that his partner had to trust his guidance in directing her to the finish line without falling, tripping, or feeling unsafe. The task was challenging as it required Shaeed to work under pressure by guiding his partner safely in faster amount of time possible. He was able to safely guide his partner in a short time.

Lastly Shaeed is an effective leader through his exceptional communicational skills by advocating for those who need it. The task that demonstrates this is best would be the activity called Live or Die. Many people were deciding the fates of others in accordance to who should be allowed to stay on the boat and those who had to be kicked off. Since tough decisions were needed to be made, the loud people were dominating their opinions and choices over others. Shaeed used his loud voice and communication skills to project the concerns and opinions of those who felt silenced by the others. He was able to understand and advocate for those tha needed it and this required effective communication between the loud and silent people on the boat.

In conclusion, the tasks that Shaeed participated in at the camp demonstrated his abilities, skills and effectiveness as a leader. He was able to demonstrate these through tasks that allowed him to use his ability to organize and delegate group member, his skill in guiding his team under pressure, and his effectiveness to communicate with others in his group.

  1. I really liked that your examples from Red Pine were very detailed, so someone who didn't go on the trip can know exactly what you experienced. Great job!! :)
